Etsy Spotlight: Animal People

Are you an animal person? I am, I love animals, especially cats. I'm a cat person. What kind of person are you? I love art of personified animals, animals wearing people clothes or acting like people.

The images above, in the order they appear, are by MarmeeCraft, JuliaPott and BerkleyIllustration.

Etsy Spotlight Gemelli Twins Gemini

I love twin art (maybe because I'm a Gemini) I also love symetrical, decorative and ornate work, like the painting shown above by SwanBonesTheater, because it reminds me of folk arts and crafts. On top of all of this I love love art of personified animals, because of the story book, fable quality. The collage of the bears is by SarahOgren and the collage of the rabbit girls is by Zeng.

Il Gatto Selvatico Mascot

I drew the designs for some new necklaces on muslin all ready for embroidering and I thought that it looked really beautiful like this so I thought I'd share it with you all. Oh, and my cat Ranita was there.

Captain Dakota

I was asked to paint another portrait of Dakota the chihuahua, but this time as a sailor. As you can see I had a great time. I was inspired by the photographs of Pierre et Gilles and by pictures of Dakota herself (at the beach at sunset). She even has a little anchor tattoo.

I just got a commission to make another portrait of the chihuahua in the post a little further down, but this time as a sailor. So I thought I'd post two other dog portraits that I made for members of my husband's family for Christmas last year.

This is Ivan, my father-in-law's boxer. I obviously gave this to him. Markers on paper, 9x6 in.

This is Zippo as a puppy chasing butterflies. This was a gift for my husband's aunt. Watercolors and mixed media on paper, 40x50 cm.

Chihuahua

I was commissioned to make a painting of a pet chihuahua. Here it is.

Oil on Canvas, 40x50 cm.

I was asked to make her a Mexican soldier and to make it colorful here are some of the photos I used as inspiration.
Zapatista Soldiers from the Mexican Revolution.

Aristocats

In college I made a series of photos featuring cat faces superimposed on top baroque paintings. Shown at the top are 3 of them, Marie Antoinette, a little girl holding a cat of her own and an Elizabethian woman.
I liked this idea so much that I decided to turn them into my own paintings. Shown above, Tabby Cat Countess and Cat Countess, 2007. Finally, after college, I decided to take it into the physical world and make them into costumes for Carnival. Shown above are the two costumes and the pannier hoop skirt that goes under the dress to make it puff out at the sides.

Theatre Music for Human Beings First Album

My husband, Simone Secci, who is the main brain and hands behind Theatre Music for Human Beings recently asked me to design the artwork for his first e.p. and he also asked me to make 5 rocket cat pins to give away with the first 5 copies.

Here are pictures of the wonderful result! Produced by Upside Down Records.

I designed and drew the outlines of the front and back covers.

Then Cristiano Carosi from Upside Down Records filled it in.

We wanted the album to look like a vintage illustrated children's book like this...
